If I work for a charter school will my teachers retirement

This answer was rated:

If I work for a charter school will my teachers retirement (TRS) carry over? I am currently a NYC teacher with 18 years.

Hello and and thank you for your question. For over 34 years, I have answered questions just like yours. And I look forward to assisting you.

If you work for a city school, as opposed to a private school, and have not paid into SS, upon retirement you willl collect your TRS. But because of what is called the Windfall Elimination Act (you did not fund your SS account) you are not entiteld to SS benefits.

Thanks for understanding.
