I am self employed, 54 yrs old, & I have not made enough $$$ or paid in enough to SS to qualify for Medicare, etc. when I'm 65. I had an injury that resulted in having Back Surgery in 1987. (last job) 1990 inherited a Grove/Farm and Preceided to continue getting injuredin my own bisness. In 2007 I started wking property management & started paying into SS. while still continuing to Farm. In 2007 I had Major Back & Neck Surgery. In 2010 - Back Surgery again,(with Suffiecent Nerve Damage in my Left Leg), Broken Tibia/Fibula Surgery (right Leg), & then I got Cancer & had to have a Double Masectomy. I also have a "Condition that I was Born With called DISH". It is Excruciatingly Painful. I am also Bipolar, ADHD, LD, & Disabled. Can't Wk. Question? Do I Qualify for Disability Benifits or Anything?
Already Tried: I called SS dept. years ago to find I only needed 4 more years of wk, but then when I read the fine print, it said to qualify a person had to work 10 years in a row to qualify. Also, I have a hand-eye coordination problem, so using the computer & w/ my neck needing surgery again, & one of my Implants need to be removed & replaced I am looking at a year of Down time. And Right now I have to hire people to work for me and I can't pay anymore.
Hello and and thank you for your question. For over 34 years, I have answered questions just like yours. And I look forward to assisting you. Thanks for your question. Note, different from SS retirement, the SSA rules require that you have worked five of the last ten years and had SS taxes withheld. And since each year represents four credits, you need to earn twenty credits in the last ten years. Accordingly, and based on what you have told me, your last job was more than ten years ago and therefore you would not have earned 20 credits. I am so sorry. And thanks for understanding.
you missed the part that since 1997 I"ve also been wking Property Management & paying into SS.
Look at your question. It says 2007. But if you have been working consistently since 2007, you do not have 20 credits until the end of this year assuming you starting working in the first quarter of 2007. Therefore, you can apply for SSD in January, 2013. Thanks for understanding.
