Another question. The disability payment comes fromsocial securitynot a private source...Also If my spouse passes away, Am I entitled to any poart of his s.s. payment>
Good morning,Thanks for asking for me. If you are receiving social security disability, then when you reach age 66---not 65, it will automatically convert to retirement. Unfortunately, the amount that you receive in retirement will be essentially the same as you are receiving for social security disability---you can not have both benefits at the same time.If your husband predeceases you, you will be able to make a survivor's claim, and if you are 66 years old or older at the time, you will receive 100% of his full retirement benefit as your benefit---but again, your disability benefit will end. You may take your survivor benefit at any time after age 60---though the benefit amount will be less than if you waited to age 66 to begin the benefit. You may reply back to me again, using the Reply to Expert link, if you have additional questions.Would you please rate me highly now, based on my assistance to you in understanding the law.I wish you the best in 2012,Doug
