My wife and I are receiving benifits now, but we aren't certain if she is receiving the proper amount. My question is: Is she to receive 1/2 of my benifit if her entitlement is less than half of mine?
Under social security rules, your spouse can qualify based upon her spouse or her own benefits.
If he applies for social security prior to her full retirement age, which may be age 66, then she would receive 50% of her spouses benefit, only if that benefit is higher then her own.
If she applies early for social security, say for example age 62, she would be given 50% of your benefits, minus a 25-30% early penalty.
If she was born from 1943-1954 her full retirement age is 66.
