Customer Question

Hi, I am a 36 year old unemployed (2years unemployed) resident of cleveland,OH. I have just been refused for unemployment benefits in OH because I was found non-eligible (law requires previous 20 weeks of employment which I never had). My wife's gross income last year was 23,800. We have three children (oldest is 7years old). My Question is: Can I get any financial help from the SSA. (Me and my children are U.S citizens, Wife is green card holder).
Thank you

Thank you for the opportunity to answer your question. I am sending this answer to you only a few minutes after you submitted your question.
Social Security Benefits cannot be used to fill in where unemployment benefits fail to assist. Instead, Social Security Benefits are only available to aged individuals, blind individuals, disabled individuals, or the children of such individuals.
The state of Ohio offers benefits for certain families in need. You can review some of these programs here: http://www.benefits.gov/benefits/browse-by-state/state/OH.

Thank you for your message.
If you are not disabled, blind, or aged and if you do not qualify for unemployment benefits, you may want to look into the programs at the link above. You could also review the link below, which provides information about other programs (food stamps, medical, etc.).
