Customer Question

I have an iPhone and a mini pad. My problem is that just recently I was texting a friend and others, and all of a sudden one contact no longer receives my messages. I receive his and communications with others are fine. I notice that even though I hear a swish sound on sending a message I never see a "delivered" notice on messages to this contact. What could possibly be wrong? I had just downloaded the ios9.0 update if that could be a concern.
Thanks,

Hi,

Can you tell me what kind of phone they have?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
6s , but this started when I had a 5s.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I somehow feel this happened when someone, a third person joined our texting and he was listed as a "group"
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, so you both have iPhones?

Does your conversation in Messages still list it as a group conversation? Also, what color after the messages when sent, blue or green?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I think I stated the group incorrectly. The group person apparently texted both my friend and I at the Sam Tim. I tried to respond and apparently it was never received by my friend. The third, group, person didn't respond either. From then on it's been no delivery to my friend. The messages are BLUE.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, on the "Group", I select my friends iPhone number to text.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I deleted the group message.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok,

try sending a message to your friend from the Contacts app rather then in Messages.

Open Contacts

locate and view his entry

tap the Messages logo next to his phone number.

Then try sending him a message.

Just tried your suggestion. I hear the swish but no confirmation on delivery and so far no response.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, when you did it, did it create a new conversation in Messages or add your message to the previous conversation?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It added, as always.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Alright,

Do you need to save the old conversations or can you delete them?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can delete.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, please delete all conversations with him and any group conversations he may be a part of...

Then, restart your iPhone.

Finally, try sending him a new iMessage.

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I went through and deleted his/our text messages.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Maybe I should delete all text messages.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Messages to other iPhone users work fine, correct? If so you should only need to delete his.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
All others are fine!
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Good. So you have deleted the other conversations. Did you try sending a new one afterwards?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No response, but who knows if he is paying attention.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

...but it still doesn't indicate it's been delivered?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Could he possibly have my messages blocked and doesn't know it? I asked him this but age said no.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No "delivery"!
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure messages to him previously said delivered when we were communicating ok. Ones to my daughters iPhone say delivered.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Can you find out what version of iOS he is running on his iPhone?

From the Home screen he can;

tap Settings

tap General

tap About

On the About screen, look for the "Version" information. Please let me know what it says.

Thanks,

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'll try to call him now!
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Great!

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok John, he's on the road but his wife, who's knowledgable, checked and he has ios9.0.1
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, good.

Have them verify you are not blocked by mistake;

they can tap Settings

tap Messages

Verify "Filter Unknown Senders" is turned OFF

then tap Blocked and verify your phone number or Apple ID are not listed.

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
At hey are on the road and driving in heavy rain, so I hate to bother them at this time. They have a five hour trip they are on.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can record your suggestions and have then do this when it's convenient.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

That's ok. You can return to this conversation at any time with that info.

At the moment, since all other texting works for you then I do believe this is a specific issue with the other phone rather than an overall problem.

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Well, I would like to think so, and this guy isn't to say on phones either, so I will talk to his wife when she has his phone in hand.
Two questions:
One: Would he and I be able to talk if my number were blocked on his phone? And we just did!
Secondly, how do I return to this connection with you?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will need a password?
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Apologies for the delay in replying, I was away from the desk.

When you come back to the site, you should find our conversation under "My Questions". If you supplied an email address when signing up then you are likely receiving email notifications about our conversation as well.

If you can call and he answers then it's unlikely you are blocked but this seems to be an obscure issue.
