Hi there and welcomeSorry about the delay. To clarify, you don't have a data plan, but do you have voice services with AT&T or any other provider?
I have data with 3 other phones - but for my 6th grader I would like him to be able to use the jailbroken 3g iphone without paying and additional $15 a month with at&t. At&t can tell when you are using a smartphone and start charging you for a data plan. I dont want to pay for a data plan because he is too young. And he can use the wifi in my house for games, etc. I do want him to be able to use the iphone as phone and to text with, he has a messaging phone now with the data blocked. So i would use his currant sim card in the iphone - just want something to block them from seeing he has an iphone. The issue is the messaging phones offered by at&t are awful and cheap -
Thanks,If it is Jailbroken, then the best method is to mis-configure the APN.The APN are the settings to connect to data, and if these are not configured correctly then it will never connect to the data network. To do this, Go to :-Settings – General – Network – cellular Data NetworkCellular Data· APN – ppinternet / internetPut anything in here MMS· APN – ppmms / multimedia"Put anything in hereSave this and the data will never connect unless the settings are corrected. I dont have that option - for settings cellular data - it is either on or off
ok, then it is not completely Jail broken, else you would see this. Then the option you have is to turn Cellular data offThis will stop all data traffic from occurring and any costs being incurred. If you are worried your 6th Grader will turn this on, then your only other option will be to have AT&T turn off data services on the contract (which they can do).Even with an App to turn off data, all it does is turn off the Cellular data switch, and it is always easy to turn on.If you may concern is to just stop data traffic and for AT&T not to see it is an iPhone, then turning off Cellular data will achieve this.If you require any additional information, please let me know Before Rating My Service.Thank You.
What would you suggest i do to completely jailbreak the phone
Phone is not unlocked so not completely jail broken. The problem is that any time at&t "sees" my sons calls or texts it can identify the type of phone. The data from at&t has been turned off and he is using a blackberry curve. It is old - and i have been told the signal from the iphones is what at&t is looking for to add on the extra money. I know just turning off data at the phone and through at&t will not stop the issue - otherwise everyone would just do that. Any advice
Thanks. The only way technically would be to block the IMEI number from the phone (it is the ID that tells AT&T the type of phone it is), but this is actually illegal. So in essence, no there is no way to stop AT&T from seeing the iPhone. But if you unlock the phone, AT&T does not force data plan on unlocked/unbranded phones except the nexus . So, you can change or continue to use the Iphone and pay the required $30/month data plan.To unlock (Jail Break) the phone, you can follow this guide.http://www.appleiphonereview.com/iphone-jailbreak/iphone-jailbreak/I am sorry but it is not an easy process, though the guide is very detailed. If you require any additional information, please let me know Before Rating My Service.Thank you and all the best.
I know that is it actually illegal - however, I believe at&t being able to go back in and actually change contracts is too. For example, for the curve I got with them 5 years ago, i only had to have data for 30 days, then could cancel - now after 5 years they can change that agreement and make me pay for a data plan on that same old phone. I will start the unlock process - I will get back in touch w you in a day - as I am not totally sure about the first process you sent me to deal with the unlocked phone.
ok, I was just informing in case you did not know. And yes, I agree with your comments regarding AT&T.Let me know please if you have any difficulties.
