Are you setting up a new iPhone or do you normally sync with this computer?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

I am setting it up. I plugged it in for the first time to my computer a couple of days ago. Nothing happens on itunes or my computer. The only way something shows up is if I go under my computer, then the USB storage thing shows up.

Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.
Okay, are you running any 3rd party anti-virus or firewall software on your computer?

Also, make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes:

I have Mcaffee, it stays on all the time. I believe I have the latest version of itunes. I downloaded it a couple of days ago.

Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.
Okay, please temporarily disable McAfee and try again.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Not sure how to do that.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.
Depending on the version you are using, there may be an icon in the system tray at the lower right of your screen. If you click (or right-click) you may find options to temporarily disable.

If not, it will likely be easier to simply uninstall McAfee while we are troubleshooting.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
I uninstalled Mcaffee and still nothing happens when I plug the phone in to my computer.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.
Okay, and you are running the latest version of iTunes, correct?

Have you tried a different USB port?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Yes I have tried a different USB port.

Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.
Alright, which model of iPhone do you have?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
iPhone 4

Okay, considering this is a brand new phone, it's possible the issue lays with your installation of iTunes on the computer.

Go to the Control Panel and click "Add/Remove Programs" (for Windows XP) or "Uninstall a Program"/"Programs & Features" (Windows Vista & 7) to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:

iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support

If you have trouble uninstalling any of the above, try the following Microsoft Fix It utility to troubleshoot the uninstallation:

Once you've completed the removal, restart your computer and re-install iTunes again. Make sure you download and install the latest release:

Let me know if this improves the situation.

Thanks,
John
