JD 445 lost steering suddenly-steering wheel moves but

Customer Question

JD 445 lost steering suddenly-steering wheel moves but wheels don't. Hydraulic fluid level was low, so added JD20C. Level OK now but no steering.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: 28 hours
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Depends on problem. Tractor is 250 ft behind home so getting it somewhere without steering will be somewhat challenging.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: Steering wheel moves freely and may have slightly more resistance after oil added.

Would you assume hydraulic issue?
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 7 months ago.

Check the lines at the power steering cylinder. With no pressure from the steering wheel, you can have cylinder that has came loose, or the internal seal has ruptured. You can test the cylinder, by removing one of the lines and see if there is oil flowing through the cylinder and out the open hole, when you turn the hand wheel. if cylinder does not move, and fluid pours from open hole, the cylinder has failed.

Yes, hydraulic issue.

If the cylinder has failed it would be replace not repaired?
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 7 months ago.

shows no parts for the cylinder. But most can be rebuilt by hydraulic shop.
