I was given a toro wheel horse 16-38 hxl It doesn't run.

Customer Question

Hey I was given a toro wheel horse 16-38 hxl It doesn't run. There is a white wire not plugged into anything. It had a male end and a plastic round clip to connect to a female Can't find what it connects to. Schematic says it goes from kill switch relay to mag. Can't find the wire it connects too

Full model number? Have you removed spark plug and checked for spark? If it has spark, will it run if you put a teaspoon of fuel direct into carburetor or cylinder? What is engine make and model? White wire. where is it's location. near engine? Is there wire to the solenid in the carburetor?

Toro -16-38 Hxl

It if on the side where the oil fill is located. I can follow it back to the k1 relay. ( kill relay).
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
The other side is a loose wire that the wiring diagram says connects to the magneto
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It's s male tip with a plastic cap. Can't find female receptacle
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

With white wire showing to be magneto, the white wire would have to be grounded, to kill the spark. Check for spark, if no spark, locate the wire on the magneto, and unplug it and check for spark again.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
That's just it. It isn't connected to anything on that side. The other end of it is the k relay
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

Do you want to locate wire position, or get engine to run?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Wire position/connection first. Don't think I'll get anything without it properly secured. I know how to test carb etc. just need to find where this wire connects
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Can I up load a picture?
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

Sure load the picture.

by schematic white only runs from coil to relay. Wire may be off, so the coil is not grounded. I suspect you have a bad coil! No spark.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
But I can't see where or how it connects to coil
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
There is a black wire that connects to coil
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
can u see the plastic connector? Needs a female to connect
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

What I see is half of a fuse holder!

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Hmmm
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I'm missing the other half. Can u see where it connects on diagram?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I know what it looks like. Just no idea where it goes. It's a white wire. Only one on schematic is to magneto.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

I see three fuses listed, none with white wire! light wire, alternator, and battery

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
But those aren't online fuses. They are in s fuse tree
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

You never know. On older mowers, It could have been an add on light or other accessory.

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

Does starter turn engine?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Ok. I'll isolate it and charge the battery and test for spark
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Right now battery is dead. Last osner said he had it turning over with new battery but couldn't start it. I'll charge it tonight and see tomm.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

Same diagram I was looking at!

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
If u find anything about that wire let me know. It's right off the wire loom. Can I message u tomm?
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

I will be here. But I doubt the wire has anything to do with your no start.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Is this a good mower? Worth fixing?
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 6 months ago.

May, if engine and transmission work ok.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I'll charge it and experiment tomm. Thanks.

see question is still open, did you find problem?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I tested for spark and it's good. So whatever the white wire does it's not affecting the starting. So I'll be looking at carb. Let you know if I get it started
