Generator will start but not stay running. I know the fuel

Hello generator will start but not stay running . I know the fuel is old and the owner over filled oil. I have carberateour off . Any suggestions?
JA: Do you have fuel in the tank? If so, is the shut-off valve open and the fuel clean?
Customer: Fuel valve is open but I know fuel is old. So not clean
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: I would like to, but if to complicated I will take to be serviced
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?

With fuel valve open , do you get good fuel flow from the tank? If you do, just clean the carburetor and be sure the needle valve passage is open, then reinstall the carburetor and see if it will continue to run?

Not getting fuel through the quick connect parts. Fuel is flowing from the tank fine
