Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! I don't know it all, but maybe together we can get you a satisfactory answer!

I think taking the radiator cap off had nothing to do with the engine dying and the no start! Is the engine turning, just not starting? Or no starter action? Is battery voltage at least 12.5 volts?

battery is new and sending good juice; starter is cranking
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

Any smoke from exhaust when cranking?

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

See link above, # 32 is fuel shutoff solenoid, does it click open as soon as you turn on the key? Do you have 12 volts to it? If it has voltage and does not retract, the solenoid is bad, engine should start if solenoid is removed.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
no smoke. maybe its not getting fuel
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

No fuel means the fuel solenoid may not be opening. Did you see the picture?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
