Customer Question

I have a###-##-####(2690987). Cust complaint, "Everything worked fine until the battery went dead and I replaced it, now it blows fuses as soon as I turn the key" .
Positive looked correct. I found 2 small black wires as well as the main ground on the neg side. The black wire with the red terminal connector gets hot when key is turned on, blowing the fuse. I disconnect this wire, the mower starts and works fine except for the deck won't go up or down and the mower won't shut off with the key. I cannot find anything (schematic) that tells me where this wire goes .
Can you help?

Thanks for this information. Does your engine have a voltage regulator on it?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
it does
Expert:  Donald replied 7 months ago.

Ok. We can get started troubleshooting. Do you have extra fuses?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
LOL, Yes
Expert:  Donald replied 7 months ago.

Very good! We will perform a process of elimination. First disconnect the wires that attaches to your fuel shut off solenoid, then check to see if your fuse blows, after you turn your switch on.

fuse blew

Thanks for checking. Next, disconnect your voltage regulator from your wiring harness, then try again.

blew fuse

The reason we are going this route, is because I do not have a wiring schematic for your mower. I would like to confirm something. Is your fuse blowing in on position, or in start position?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
on position
Expert:  Donald replied 7 months ago.

Ok. Disconnect the wiring connector for your headlights, also inspect the wiring for bare spots.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
done. all fine
Expert:  Donald replied 7 months ago.

Your fuse didn't blow this time? Very good! This indicates that our problem is either in your headlights, or the wiring circuit to them.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I unplugged the light switch, blew a fuse

thanks for the help

You are very welcome! I apologize. I thought when you said "all fine", you meant that fuse did not blow.
