Unplug the wire from the micro switch that kills engine when it comes back to idle. Located in the same box as the starter solenoid, at the end of the battery cable. The micro switch may be shorting out the kill wire.

this is a 1998 295... I don't see a micro switch....just the solenoid, ignitor and voltage regulator...
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 10 months ago.

Micro switch is at the end of the throttle cable, look in box under the drivers floor mat. See link below. I was thinking of Club Car.

Is there a way to test coil
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 10 months ago.

I will have to see if I can find service manual with coil test!

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 10 months ago.

My manual does not show coil test. If you use voltmeter to test with, do you get signal voltage from the igniter to the coil? If you do, coil is bad. You can ohm the coil to see if any parts are shorted to the inner core. I see some forums on testing, but none are specifi. The service manual only shows R& r. no test procedure. I had it somewhere , but I can't find it! I'm sure i put it up so I could find it and ??? sorry

I see question still open, did you find problem?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No not yet.

just had a thought, are the valves working? This engine has a timing belt and if the belt is broken, you loose everything.
