I have 044 Mag Stihl very difficult to pull will not start.

I have 044 Mag Stihl very difficult to pull will not start . Done the spark plug and fuel line checks etc. it will pull easily sometimes but then reverts to a very hard pull. Does not start!
JA: Do you have fuel in the tank? If so, is the shut-off valve open and the fuel clean?
Customer: yes I follow directions from the Stihl manual.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: Has very good compression and isn't dirty.

Hello, is your saw equipped with a decompression valve? If yes do you push it down each time you pull the rope?

Is there a lot of carbon build up on top of the piston? Possible to be a little out of time.Have you removed the flywheel to check the key/keyway. Some flywheels have the key formed in them. Some have a steel key and can damage the keyway in the flywheel
