Customer Question

I have a Vanguard twin Model 350447 type 1412-
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: -E1. It's 10 years old but has fewer than 100 hours. It started blowing white smoke. I changed the oil and it looked/smelled like there might have been gasoline in the oil.
JA: Do you have fuel in the tank? If so, is the shut-off valve open and the fuel clean?
Customer: Fuel is clean and new, non-ethanol. Fuel shut-off valve is off when the engine isn't operating. All filters are new.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: If it doesn't involve dismantling the engine, I'll do it myself.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: Nope.

If you are getting fuel into the oil (crankcase) the needle of the carb is not sealing properly. A small amount of debris can cause this or the needle or seat could just be worn.

Could fuel leaking into the crankcase cause the white smoke?
Expert:  JON replied 2 months ago.

yes, and it is not good to run machine like that as the oil is thinned out and can damage internal parts
