I have a cv740-0036 engine. I had a very bad oil leak, I changed the oil cooler and gasket and tigthened the nipple to 20 ft lbs. when l started the engine oil leaked instantly between the oil cooler and the mounting plate on the crankcase. Do I need sealant on the nipple threads?

Should need no sealant on the threads. Is the gasket in place? Lined up properly? Is the nipple putting the clamping force on the cooler housing when it is tightened? Is tis the sam eleak you had to begin with? Oil cooler base not cracked?
