Small Engine Troubleshooting Problems? Ask a Mechanic Now.
HI, my name is***** will be assisting you.
You can check the trigger module by having the module still mounted to the engine block and checking one wire at a time back to a good ground to see if the module has shorted out to a ground. You can also place your test leads one on each wire lead from the module and crank the engine a over a few times you should see a pulse or change in the reading as the engine turns over.
You can test resistance through the ignition coil by checking primary and secondary winding of the coil but the best test here is a physical spark check with everything hooked up to see if you are getting spark to the plug.
To my knowledge there is no way to test the condenser using an ohm meter. You would need a coil and condenser tester to verify condenser status. You have to be able to charge and discharge the condenser which can't be done with an ohm meter.
You will also want to verify that you have a good 12 VDC feed going to the ignition coil on this engine as it has what is known as a battery fired ignition system as well. If you don't have a good 12 VDC feed to the coil the ignition system will not work properly.
Thank you it has been a pleasure to assist you.
