The part number you were given has not been a valid part number for about 20 years.
There is no "special" tool required to pull the crank gear. What you need is a standard 4", 2-jaw gear puller, which is available at any auto parts store, or tool department of places like Sears.

Yes we did heat the gear, and use a puller
