those machines had an issue with valve adjustment. basicly what is happening is the valves are adjusted to tight and not allowing compression to leave the cylinder. so when you hit the starter its trying to overcome all th engines compression without a running start. deere at one time had a warranty fix for this. it may be worth calling your local deere dealer with your serial # and asking what they can do for you. not a hard fix and a pretty simple solution

hope this helps and thank you very much for using JA
