I have a 17.5hp Briggs & Stratton that when running it is spitting

Customer Question

I have a 17.5hp Briggs & Stratton that when running it is spitting oil out of the exhaust screen on the fuel pump. I don't think it's actually a fuel pump, although that is what it's called on the parts list. I replaced this fuel pump, it still blows oil out of it.

Hi my name is ***** ***** welcome to Just Answer. Can you upload a picture of where the oil is coming out ? . Also does your oil smell like gas or seem thin ?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It smells like oil, coming out of screen looking vent on what is called a fuel pump per the manuals I looked at. Do you want the part number?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
What's next? Do you have an idea as to why this is happening?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
yes , if the oil smells fine , no gas smell and is not above full I would next check a the lines going to the fuel pump
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
That fuel pump runs on vacuum. If the line is blocked or clogged it could cause it
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Check them for what? They dont leak. How many input ports on the fuel pump?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
If the line is clogged or kinked it could cause it to?? What?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Not get correct vacuum pressure
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
There 3 lines on that fuel pump one draws vacuum to pump fuel . It could also be the valves need adjusting or a blown head gasket
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
9 times out of 10 it's a blown head gasket, it causes back pressure
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I'm done, calling repair shop tomorrow.
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Ok , but please let me know the outcome . I'm betting it's a blown head gasket
