I have a Toro Personal Pace lawn mower and the engine build

Customer Question

I have a Toro Personal Pace lawn mower and the engine build date is 01/10. TYhe engine is quiet when I start it but when I engage the transmission and mow there is one hell of a racket under the mower which sounds like someone banging on the underside. Any suggestions on what this is and how to correct it? Any assistance much appreciated.

How is the blade is it bent. ?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
no, relatively new
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
When you engage the self propel does it pull ?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Yes, and that is when the racket starts- not consistant but certainly more than less
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Ok , do the wheels feel loose ? , does it slip at all when pulling ?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Wheels are tight and spin freely. It does not seem to slip. I tried tightening the drive cable and all that did was reduce the speed that it would pull.
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Right that's how you adjust the speed , you can check the belt and under cover . Here is a diagram http://www.ereplacementparts.com/toro-20332-3110000013119999992011-lawn-mower-parts-c-121776_127291_147680.html

and what am I supposed to do with the diagrams
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Have you removed the rear wheels yet
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
have not removed the rear wheels, should I and if I do, what am I looking for
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Most toro mowers have a metal gear in the wheel , but those could be the type with nylon teeth
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
removed wheels and all gears are metal and they are not stripped.
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Ok that eliminates that . Does it sound like the underbody an els could be ose that hide the transmission ?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
els or ose??????????????
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
Sorry , typo . The under body cover that hides the transmission , could they be loose
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
just checked and nothing is loose.
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 6 months ago.
If it's not the belt it may be coming from the transmission itself
