Hi my name is ***** ***** welcome to Just Answer. How are you today? . When you first turn the key to on which os right before starting do you hear a click from the fuel shut off solenoid?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
No I do not here a click. The solenoid is on the bottom of the carb?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 7 months ago.
Is there wires going to the bottom of the carb and a round metal thing on it
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Yes one wire back to the wire harness
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Have you an answer?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
John are you there?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 7 months ago.
That's the fuel shut off solenoid , it may be bad . To test it you should hear a faint click when turning the key to on , or you can remove it but leave it hooked up to the wire and when you turn the key on the plunger should drop down
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
No it does not drop down on its own. you can push it down, then the magnetic holds.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
The engine runs then sputures , sometimes regains contact, then wants to shut off.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Hey John what do think?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Sorry, what do you think?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 7 months ago.
5so of you turn the key from off to on it doesn't drop down ?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Yes right. I should have power at the switch lead when starting?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 7 months ago.
Yes you should
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 7 months ago.
