Small Engine Troubleshooting Problems? Ask a Mechanic Now.
Hello, and thank you for choosing Just Answer. My name is***** will be happy to assist you.
How long has it been since your engine last started up and performed to your satisfaction? This is a troubleshooting question.
Thanks for your reply. When your engine failed, one month ago, do you know if the problem was fuel, or was it ignition related?
Kerry, if you partially close your choke, will your engine continue to run?
I am trying to determine what is happening after a few seconds, as your engine is shutting down. I would like to figure out if you are loosing spark, or fuel, at that point. This is the reason for the questions, I am asking you.
Are you saying it stalls out if you partially close your choke??
What happens when your choke is partially, or fully closed?
Thanks for your response. Kerry, keep in mind that an engine needs three things in order to run properly. Your engine needs Spark, Fuel, and Compression? You stated that you are getting good spark, fuel, etc. What about your compression?
Ok, good fuel, spark, and compression. Is your carburetor new or rebuilt?
Are you near your engine? I would like for you to try something ...
Kerry, if you have some carburetor cleaner in a can, I would like for you to spray a small burst directly into your carburetor, as your engine is shutting down, to see if your engine will pick back up, and run briefly.
Thanks. Let me know what happens after you give it a try.
