Hello, and thank you for choosing Just Answer. My name is***** will be happy to assist you.

Your transmission is a manual shift, and I have some things for you to check.

Expert:  Donald replied 11 months ago.

Check to see if a small branch, or a small build up of debris, is preventing your lever from shifting into reverse. Check to see if you can shift properly to forward position.

Your shift linkages could be binding. Remove your shifting linkage from your transmission, then try to shifting into reverse using your hand. Rock your mower forwards and backwards, as you are trying to shift into reverse.

If your transmission still will not shift into reverse, after you remove your linkages, your transmission may have internal issues.
