George, what type of machine do you have? Make and model?

Expert:  Donald replied 1 year ago.

The seals on hydrostatic transmissions are designed to prevent oil from leaking out of your transmission, but will not prevent water from seeping in. This is why manufacturers recommend that you never use your garden hose to rinse off the dirt and debris from your transmission, but use compressed air instead.

It is safe to assume, that if your machine ended up in a pond, you will very likely end up with some water seepage, before you can actually get the machine out of the pond.
