I have an l120 deere tractor. I was mowing today no problem

Customer Question

I have an l120 john deere tractor. I was mowing today no problem then noticed half way theu that the blades were no longer engaging. It appears the saftey switch on the seat is working because if i have the knob pulled up to engage the blades and go to stand up the engine shuts off. Any advice what to check? Thanks

With engine off, turn on the keyswitch, the turn on the pto switch. do you hear the pto clutch click in?

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

If not, the pto clutch needs to be checked for battery voltage to it. Wires to it may be loose or damaged.

Do you have any battery issue, where the battery has to be jumped or charged? Low battery voltage and the clutch will not engage.

I tried to turn the key and not start the engine but then pull out the yellow switch for the blade(PTO?). No clicking.

I do not have any battery issue. Where are the wires to check the power to the pto?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
If i try to turn the engine on with the pto switch on, it wont start the engine
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

The clutch is mounted on the bottom of the engine crankshaft. With engine OFF, look for the clutch and the wire harness to it.

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

The engine not starting with switch on, just means the switch is good.
