My Generac has the 0G9655 engine. It has only been run about

Customer Question

My Generac has the 0G9655 engine. It has only been run about 5 times in two years and not for long. It is obvious that no gas is getting to the engine. Since a carb costs about $90, is there something I can do to clean out the carbeurator?

I would like to ask you some troubleshooting questions. Did you leave gas in your fuel tank, during the times you were not using your generator? Will your engine start up briefly, if you spray a small burst of carburetor cleaner, or starting fluid directly into your carburetor? We can continue from here. Thanks!

I left fuel on the tank. I do not have anything to spray into the carburetor.

No problem. Thanks for your reply.

The fuel that was left in your fuel tank, very likely contaminated and clogged the small jets, and fuel passages inside your carburetor.

I found some HEET and sprayed it in while cranking the engine. Did not even begin to turn over.

would I have to disassemble the carburetor to clean it?
Expert:  Donald replied 1 year ago.

Yes, you are correct. I would also soak your carburetor prior to cleaning it.

Use a small wire to clean every small hole you see.

Keep in mind that fuel will turn stale within thirty days, from date of purchase. Stale fuel will turn to gum and varnish, and eventually clog your carburetor.

Will that generally work? This engine only been run about 2 total hours. The engine is about 4 years old. should I replace the gaskets a teach end?
Expert:  Donald replied 1 year ago.

A twist tie from a loaf bread will work really well for cleaning the jets and fuel passages inside your carburetor. Just remove the outer coating first.

If you are careful, you may be able to re-use your gaskets. If not, consider purchasing a carburetor rebuild kit.

Ok. There is a place nearby where I can those things. Thank you for your help.

You are very welcome! I do hope all goes well for you.
