OK it sounds like this is the 190cc briggs , there's 2 screws in the cover that need to come off , then the gas tank has to be removed . There are 3 small bolts in the top ring of the gas tank that goes around the top , there will also be a bolt on the side that bolts on the block . That will remove the gas tank , then there are 2 bolts in the front if the motor and 2 in the rear , that is what holds the top on , the recoil is pop riveted to it . Are you replacing the rope ?
