Hi, my name is***** will be assisting you.

The timing marks are actually internal on the crankshaft gear and the camshaft.

We have it apart and are looking at it
Expert:  JohnF2015 replied 1 year ago.

Depending on the age of the engine you should see either a dot or a line on the crankshaft gear at one of the teeth. The camshaft will either be a dot or a little notch between the teeth on the gear.

Do u have to line them up

Line them up ?
Expert:  JohnF2015 replied 1 year ago.

Yes you want the two marks lined up together in order to have the engine in proper time. If you don't the engine will not usually start due to the valve timing being off and the spark will not be at the right time.
