I was tilling this morning and the tiller suddenly stopped

Customer Question

I was tilling this morning and the tiller suddenly stopped going forward. Reverse is OK but no longer goes forward. How can I fix?
Thanks

Model? With Troybilt, it has belt for forward and another for reverse. Belt needs to be replaced.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Pony. It has no belts. This answer wasn't helpful at all. My tiller is mechanical and gear driven.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

You did not give model! Let me look at Pony. Do you have model NUMBER

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

Pony uses belt too, unless you have Mini model?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
This is old model dating back to late 1980s when they were built like a tank. It was my Dad's and I got when he passed in 91. There is a gear mechanism that has a V that pulls up on one side for forward and up on the other side for reverse. When I have a chance and I'm back in the garden area I will try and get a model # ***** Can I send pictures?

Sure attach picture using the paperclip icon above the typing bar. But I think you will find it has two belts!

There is no paper clip above my typing bar.

Maybe a tree icon? Did you look at the pony link?

My tiller looks like the picture attached. Not as new but same model type. Not the flimsy things they have today.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

Belt drive! You have belts!

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will look when I get back up to the garden. I think you are right. My bad. Do you know which part the forward drive belt is? Assume I an order and replace?

Reverse Drive Belt

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you sure? Reverse works. It doesn't work going forward. I could live with reverse broke but can't till when it will not go forward.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

It will be belt problem, it may not be broke, but off a pulley or lost tension spring.

Thanks, ***** ***** rain here so can't check today.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

OK, send us some rain! Texas

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I wish I could. We had zero chance of rain today and I had a day of garden work planned getting ready for next spring. It's been that kind of year. Worst garden we've had in 20 plus years.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.

Thanks for the thought!

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hi Jeff, I will not know how helpful your suggestions were until I get a chance to pull the cover off my tiller to see if your suggestions were right. As I said it rained and I've been busy with my business and I've not had time to get back to the tiller. I will try to get out to the garden this weekend and look at the tiller.

Thanks for the reply!

Curtis
My apologies. I was corresponding with Jeff in my business and typed his name here by mistake. I have a pretty full day tomorrow, I hope to get out in the garden this weekend.

I didn't even notice! Thanks.
