I have a 22" Craftsman self-propelled lawn mower. The unit

Customer Question

I have a 22" Craftsman self-propelled lawn mower. The unit had bee setting for 2 years and now won't start. If gas is squirted into the carb, it will start but then dies and won't start. I see that gas is not getting into the carb from the tank. I need to remove the carb from the mower so I can remove the fuel line from the carb and see if the line is plugged or maybe the tank has sediment in it which is plugging the line. How can I remove the carb from the engine? The Model No. is-###-##-####

Did you get my question?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.

Looking at your model number it doesn't pull any information , does it have a briggs or tecumseh engine , ?

Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.

Yes I did get your question , sitting for 2 years the carburetor should be rebuilt because it gas a rubber inlet valve and after sitting over time they will not seal with the carburetor needle , then gas Gan get down in to the crankcase and mix with the oil which will ruin the engine

Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.

If you can tell me if it's a briggs or tecumseh I can help walk you through removing the carburetor and cleaning and rebuilding it

Give me a minute, I will have to go outside and check the engine. Is there a tag or something that can tell be which engine I have?
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.

It should say 190 cc briggs and Stratton or tecumseh

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thanks. I will be right back.

Sure no problem

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The only tag on the engine gives my a displacement of 52290. There is no name on the tag. It is a 5.5 hp engine.

I just got this mower yesterday, there was no manual with it. It appears they may have mowed a small amount of grass but even the wheels look new and unused.

Ok does it have a primer on the side of the engine or facing the front
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it has a primer bulb on the side just on the rear of the carb. I did try to push the primer but can feel any fuel going into it.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I meant to say, I can't feel any fuel going into it.

Does this look like your motor , this is a briggs and Stratton

That mower does not look like mine. It doesn't say on the engine cover what type engine I have. I did go out and pull the dipstick and it appears that there is gas in the oil. The muffler on the video is much bigger than mine and the carb is mounted just to the rear of the muffler.
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Ok, do not try to start it . The carburetor definitely needs to be rebuilt . Being there's no indication of what type of engine it is I'm trying to see if we can find it by finding one simular. I'll find a tecumseh one and see if that looks like it
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Ok , the engine will not have the same color etc but does this look like your motor ?

Here is your diagram , it Def look like a tecumseh engine
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
OK, the kit No. was 631021B
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
That is my mower but the parts list did not show the carb or the rebuild kit for the carb.
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Your local small engine shop should carry them in stock , or you can order one but it will take longer to get. When you get it there's a few things to remember , the new rubber inlet valve has to go in with the ring side down, also make sure the ports on the copper bowl bolt are clear, get a can of Gumout carburetor cleaner to spray it out etc
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thanks. Who would I order the kit from if the shop doesn't have it.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thanks. I have a repair shop about 2 mi. from me and they have the carb kit. I am on my way.
