Customer Question

I have an 83 motor home with an onan generator. It was working and starting fine, left it parked for 3 weeks, now it will not turn over. Can turn it over easily by hand, but not by using start switch. Have new batteries, but that did not solve problem.

Hello!
My name is ***** ***** I am going to assist you with this.
How much battery voltage do you have available at the starter solenoid?
HOw much voltage is there while you are pressing the start button?
When you press the start button, do you hear a click or anything? Or is it completely dead?
.

I haven't checked the voltage, don't have a tester. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it does nothing. Other times it starts to turn over, but never a complete turn.

Most often, an issue like this is caused by low voltage getting to the genset.
Low voltage can be caused my many things:
Bad/weak batteries
Dirty/corroded/loose connections of the battery cables
Poor ground
The AJ does not have a mechanical starter. It uses an inertia start system, and on this model, another cause of low voltage can be dirty/damaged/worn brushes and/or commutators.
The voltage really needs to be checked.
