Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! It has a diode in the harness from the stator, which gives you the DC volts. Just hook the dc volt wire to the battery, either at key switch battery terminal, or the posiitve battery cable side of the starter solenoid.

The engine has a factory installed voltage regulator that is putting out 12vac. There isn't a dc output.

The regulator should be putting out DC volts!
