I have a 402707 engine...replaced head gaskets spark plugs

I have a 402707 engine...replaced head gaskets spark plugs starter....starts easily, runs great....cylinder however gets extremely hot in no time and am sure if I continued to run for any length of time would seize..3 minutes i can place my hand on the head of cylinder 2 and cylinder 1 would burn instantly......Thoughts on what is causing this?

Have you checked spark going to both cylinders? It could be that the engine is only running on one cylinder which would cause that one to heat up quickly and run hotter than the other. You may also check for an intake air leak on the cool cylinder maybe it isn't pulling the fuel that it needs to run properly which would cause the second cylinder to work harder to keep the engine running which in turn would produce more heat quickly.
