Hello!
My name is ***** ***** I am going to assist you with this.
What are the model and serial numbers of the genset?
what is the fuel source?
.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Quite source 36 kW
Natural gas
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
Quiet Source is a series of gensets, not a model number.
I need the model and serial numbers of your genset.
.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Model number is (###) ###-####2.4 liter engine
1800 rpm
36 kW
Single phase
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sorry I don't have the serial number right now
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
I will need the serial number to be able to pull up the proper schematic, and also to check for any TSB that may be out on this unit.
.

Hello

Sorry, I was at work. I work 2 day jobs, and help on Just Answer in the evenings.
Although I am online almost every day, I just can't be online all day.
1. Is this a new install, or has this unit worked previously, and this just started happening?
2. Has there been any work done to this unit recently?
3. Has the fuel regulator been reconfigured? It somes from the factory set to run on NG, but can be converted to LP.
4. I need to know exactly how far the engine is slowing down. Connect a frequency meter to the output of the genset, and start it up. What reading does it give when it starts up, and how slow does it get when it shuts down?
.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
This is the unit it's been working for a couple months no issues.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
From one day to the next day it just wouldn't start and run properly
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
You most likely have a regulator issue. It is the most common cause of something like this.
A frequency test will verify it.
Unfortunately, if it is a regulator issue, it is not something you can test yourself, unless you have had gaseous fuel training and have the proper equipment.
The only thing you would be able to do would be to just install a new regulator - but that is a very expensive risk to take.

How much is a regulator
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
For that unit, you are looking in the ballpark of about $400.
.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where is it located on the generator. And where can I buy it. I will check the frequency tomorrow. Last time I checked when it was installed it was 60hz
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
It is inside the enclosure, and you can get it from any Generac dealer.
.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I know it inside the enclosure where by the engine near the side in the control box near the fuel filter it little more helpful
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
My parts list does not show the exact location.
You will need to follow the fuel hose from the carb back to it, but typically it will be mounted right behind the engine.
.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you saying the fuel regulator or voltage regulator
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
Fuel regulator. The voltage regulator will have nothing to do with the engine slowing down and shutting down.
Sorry, I should have specified that.
.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 year ago.
Besides, this unit technically doesn't even have a voltage regulator.
Voltage regulation is accomplished through the controller.
