Customer Question

I have a 20 year old JD 320, the one with the kawasacki engine. I was backing out to mow today when the mower just stopped backing up and the engine stopped. It will not start even though everything looks normal from the outside, i.e. oil, transmission fluid. It makes a whirring noise when you crank it. It almost sounds like the starter is turning but is not engaging the engine.

Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !!
what is battery voltage? Did you have to use jumper or battery charger to start unit? Unit has the twin Kawasaki engine? Low battery voltage, either from bad battery or cables could keep starter from fully engaging.

Everything seems fine as far as cables and such. Tractor had just started

do you have a voltmeter to test the battery? Are the fuses good?

Sorry, fuses would be good!

But battery or cables can still affect start.
