We have a craftsman DYT 4000 that would run great but the blades

Customer Question

We have a craftsman DYT 4000 that would run great but the blades would not engage. My husband put a new switch on that you pull to engage the blades. After he put the switch in the head lights flickered and the mower slowly stallled. Now it won't run or even turn over, it won't make a sound when trying to start it.
We are getting desperate. (:

We put in a fuse and now it will run so we are back to the original problem of the blades will not engage. Belts are all tight.

Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! Can you take jumper wires direct from the battery to the electric clutch, and use to test the magnet in the clutch? Clutch should click in when touched with the jumpers. Engine does NOT need to be on. If clutch clicks on, it is ok. And problem can be wires between the switch and the clutch. Do you have a voltmeter or test light to check the circuit?

We don't understand where to hook it to the electric clutch?
