I have an old yard machine with the B&S i/C 14.5 that will not crank. Started fine all spring, now nothing. Replaced battery and ignition switch. It is as if no power is going to the starter.

Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! If you follow the posiitve battery cable to the starter solenoid, can you jump the solenoids two large post with old screwdriver and spin the engine? This checks the battery, cables and the starter.

i have replaced solenoid. still nothing

I knew you had, I want to know if the starter spins the engine! Do the solenoid jump test please!

i had to jump the new solenoid and after repeated tries it did start.

i turned off the ignition and it restarted fine. the new solenoid must have needed a jump as well. any thoughts on why that would be so?

yes, did all those things. installed new battery, solenoid, cleaned all connections. it is running now, so i am headed out to mow
