We have a john Deere lx178. A bracket that holds the spring under the deck broke. We replaced the bracket and put everything back together. It starts, but does not get faster. What do we need to do? The belt is tight when gas is depressed , but engine does not accelerate.

Are you looking at the transmission belt or the deck belt?

So engine is not revving up? Check the linkage at the carburetor.
