Customer Question

I have a craftsman DLS 3500 21.0 HP 46" riding mower.
The "star" on the bottom of the mandrel of the left side Mandrel assembly has been stripped away and it also seems to be making a rubbing noise. I am attempting to replace the actual mandrel (part no 192872) from the mandrel assembly.
My question is this:
* the pulley seems very tight however I am sure I can get that off. however is the
mandrel pressed into the upper bearing and therefore does the actual mandrel
have to be pressed out of the Mandrel assembly (part no 187281 housing,
mandrel) or should it just slide out /
Thanks
Tom

It won't be loose. but once you have the top pulley adn the key out to f the shaft, the shaft can be driven out the bottom.

There isn't a key in the shafts. ?????

What is the model number ? example 917-12345

Usually the top pulley has a keyway that mates with woodruff key in the top shaft. With key in place, the shaft will not go through the bearing.

OK, looking at the parts list. Your's does not have key.

So with upper pulley off, the shaft can be driven out the bottom.

Thank you, ***** ***** not make it budge so I am taking it to be repaired.

OK, a rubber mallet or a block of wood. Or just remove the spindle bolts and take out the assembly.
