Hello, my name is Jack (MR.PUTTPUTT), I run a MTD Troy-Bilt warranty and repair center and I am a certified tech on most makes and models, I think what may have happen is that over the off season fuel has bypassed the needle and seat in the carb and filled the combustion chamber and hydro locked the cylinder, what I need you to do is remove the spark plug and see if there is any gas or oil in the chamber can you do this?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes, I think so. Shall I leave to do it now?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
yes please, I will be here just return when you are ready
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
This is going to take me some time. Is there a way I can get back to you in a few minutes?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
I am not to familiar with the customer side of the site, but I believe that you had to make a user name and password ***** you started you just log back in and continue I believe.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Okay, thank you. I have to find the spark plug, so you an see my ability level
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
the spark plug will be in the front of the mower it will have the plug wire on it you will need to remove the wire(pull it off easy) and then you will have to have a spark plug socket I think it is a 5/8" (i think) then check if there is fuel and oil in the cylinder put a paper towel in front of the hole and gently pull the cord if you can and see if fluid comes out.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
this is only the first test so please hang in there
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thank you... I'll log in again shortly
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
ok
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you still there?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
i am here
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok. The spark plug feels sticky, but there is no sign of fluid on the paper towel I put in.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
try and pull the rope now with the plug out and see if you can
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The rope is completely frozen now. I had been able to pull it with effort earlier.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
ok the plug is out and paper towel is not in there, so next you will need to check and see if there is anything stuck in the blade at all
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Nothing appears to be stuck, but the blade is difficult to turn by hand.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
can you tell me what brand of engine is on this
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Briggs Stratton
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
just a question are you holding down the brake lever at the top of the handle bar?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes on the initial tries
, but not the last time.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
with plug out and nothing by the hole, hold down the lever and then see if you can pull the cord please
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, it will not budge
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
did you happen to lower the handle when you put it away?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
what I need you to do now is tie the handle on the top the brake part tie it with a piece of string or such and then see if you can take the blade and move it back and forth by hand does that make sense to you?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
OK
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
and let me know the results
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
and let me know the results
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes, I can move the blade. Also tried the cord again, but it didn't move
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
ok then the issue that you have is with the recoil itself and it will need to be removed and checked it could have come out of place with the cogs that are in there
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Is that something I can do?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
how new is the unit?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
All right. Thank you.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
please remember to rate me on my efforts for you thanks
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Jack was very patient and tried hard to solve my problem. Unfortunately, it was something that had to be solved by shop that fixed these motors.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.
we can continue if you want and I am sure we can get it but I figured that you would want to use a warranty when it is under warranty we can remove the recoil on the top of the engine if you would like
