Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! The typical McCullough chain saw has a manual pump to aid in the chain oiling. With the chain and bar off, press the button for the oiler and see if you get any oil from the hole behind the bar location. Have you tired to clean out the tiny orifice for the oiler at the chain end?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
there does not appear to be a button for the oiler and I found a very small hole which leads to the oil tank and have inserted and removed several times a thin wire which has gone into the tank but on starting the engine still no oil

Then the oil pump needs to be replaced.
