Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !!

curtis b :

.030 in would be plug gap. Do you have spark on the plug when it is removed and grounded as you spin engine?

JACUSTOMER-dfccg206- :

Hi Curtis , I haven't tried that

curtis b :

Is this Briggs engine Or something else.

curtis b :

The model number does not show the engine.

curtis b :

If you put teaspoon of fuel into the spark plug hole and re-install the spark plug, will t fire for few seconds.

curtis b :

Do you have new plug?

JACUSTOMER-dfccg206- :

Tucumech (spelling) the spark wire boot is so deep . How do I get it to a ground?

curtis b :

You can use a jumper wire on, or just try the fuel in the spark plug hole.

curtis b :

Tecumseh and Briggs both use one single kill wire on the coil. If this wire is disconnected, w ill engine start?

curtis b :

If engine fires with fuel in cylinder, the carburetor needs to be checked.

curtis b :

With fuel smell in exhaust , more likely a spark problem.

What is best to clean the carb of varnish?

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 4 years ago.
Best to disassemble and use a carburetor soak solution and let it soak overnight , then clean it and install with any new parts needed. Most auto supplies carry a 1 gallon can of cleaner with a basket for the small parts.
