Hi, My name isXXXXX you for letting me try and assist you with your problem.
Jumping from the battery to the starter directly and it not doing anything would mean the starter is bad.

But by turning the key and you get nothing means you have a bad key switch, safety interlock, or starter solenoid.

You should at least get a click from the solenoid.
You need to follow the power to find where it's not going on.
Maybe the brake switch, or seat switch.

Also make sure you load test the battery to make sure it's good.
Any auto parts store will do that free for you.
Try that and let me know if you need anything further.

I took a known good battery and tried it in the tractor and still got nothing. So you say if jumping the starter got no response from the starter that I am correct the starter is bad or are you saying thats not it. I am sorry I am not very mechanial but I just cannot afford to have someone come out and fix it so I really need your help

Yeah jumping from the battery to the starter and it not working means the starter is bad.
As long as your ground from the battery to the engine is good.

When I first tried to start this tractor it tried to turn over but did not and then I turn the key again and then got nothing does that give you any clues. Now that I have the starter out of the tractor can I test it in anyway

Yeah you get a good battery and some jumper cables.
Hook the positive cable to the starter post and to the positive post on the battery.
Connect the negative cable to the battery and hold the starter firmly.
Touch the negative to the body of the starter it should jump and turn.
If it doesn't it's bad.
The starter might just be bad from what you're telling me that would make sense.
Give it a try and let me know if you need more help.
