I have a 8MGKBD-3363B Gasoline generator, with or witout a load it hunts/surges for the correct speed. I had to replace the rotor, brushes, and the controlboard which has been set to match the generator. When it starts the govenor actuator starts opening then closing the throttle and never settlesdown to a steddy speed. Thank in advance for any suggestions. Jim K.
Hi, this is Russ, I'll be helping you with your problem today. THANKS! v Sorry, chat is n/w on my end...
Your problem is caused by an over lean mixture. This can be an AIR LEAK in the intake manifold due to a bad gasket of a pin hole in the manifold. USE A SPRAY BOTTLE WITH WATER AND WHILE RUNNING GENTLY SPRAY THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AREA AND WHEN THE ENGINE STUMBLES, YOU FOUND THE LEAK! If no air leak, then the problem is carburettor, and this requires removal of the carb, disassembly, and then SOAKING FOR A DAY OR TWO in good carb cleaner. This may not work and a new carb may be needed. THANKS AND GOOD LUCK!
I have disconnected the actuator from the carb and it idles smoothly and have operated the throttle manually, no misfire or loss of power that i could notice, or is it just that sensitive?
IT IS EXTREMELY SENSATIVE AND THE GOVERNOR WORKS ON RPM CHANGE AND WILL OVER COMPENSATE. Once it starts this cycle, it will continue over and over. I know this is a hard pill to swallow, but it is just what I said. If like most generators, it sits for a period of time between uses, it gets worse. Dirt, water, or bad gas can cause this at any time also!
