Son's Craftsman rider had wiring issues....due to mice. Fixed those - battery dead so jumped it, started it several times and mowed grass. As I was finishing, noticed one of the headlights was not on....tapped on the lens outside.......engine shut off. Found light socket had fallen out and melted against muffler. Replaced socket, replaced battery, now have no power to anything????
Optional Information: Make: Craftsman Model: XXX.XXXXXX Already Tried: Checked voltage at battery - good Checked voltage at solenoid coming from battery - good Everything worked prior to light socket melting?
Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !!
Unit has a single fuse in the ignition circuit.
You have blown this fuse, it is located in the wire coming off the starter solenoids positive post, goes back to the dash to feed the key switch. Somewhere in this wire is the fuse, am automotive flat fuse in most cases. FInd the fuse, replace it and you will have it running.
They never show the fuse location, but in most cases it will be near the battery, or under the dash.
Would the light socket melting blow that fuse?
Yes the fuse would blow.
Typical craftsman wiring diagram, showing the fuse!
Curtis:
yes
??
Curtis, I will go see if I can find the fuse. Appreciate your help. Is the fuse going to be the glass type like in the older cars or the new type like is in my Dodge pickup?
New type, flat blade.
Thanks, I will find it!
Let me know. I am going to change to question and answer so it will load quicker. I will be on line for a while!
