my lawn mower craftsman 17 hp will not go into neutral gear. drove it in the
storage w/o any problems. went back to use again and it wont start and nor
go into neutral.

You pulled the freewheel lever and the unit will not roll? The brakes are locked!! It has a mechanical disc brake on the transaxle, follow the brake linkage to the rear axle, just ahead of the wheel. See if you can get brake to release, you might have to loosen the two bolts on the brake caliper to get unit to release.

I rec our info and I checked the brake system and the brakes released and the mower cranked. completely satisfied with your advise. thanks will use you again when I have tgroubles.charles ,
