Thank you for choosing Just Answer, my name is XXXXX XXXXX X will do my best to help you find the answer you need to resolve your problem.

The first thing you should check is your exhaust screen. The outlet of your muffler will have a 5/16 inch nut, remove this and there is a cone shaped screen inside the muffler that acts like as a spark arrestor, if it is plugged up with carbon your engine will not run past an idle. If it is clear then it may be in your carburetor. Even though you have rebuilt it there could be a blockage or a welch plug that is leaking. If your unit is less then 2 years old then you can bring it into your dealer and ask that they warranty the carb. They should without an issue, If not or if your machine is out of warranty then you can replace the entire carburetor. The new part number with upgraded sealant resistant to ethanol is 4140(NNN) NNN-NNNNand will only run you $29.90

Hi,

never thought of the exhaust and i will check it but it sends out lots of smoke when it runs. where can I get and exploded diagram of the carb in case I didn't put it back together properly? also there are 2 little cover things I didn't change because they look like they are oressed in. also i should tell you it is not my unit. The local stihl dealer Watts small engine is 3 weeks behind even looking at stuff so I am trying to help a friend. the new carb sounds good and I should be able to get that from the dealer correct?

The dealer should be able to get you the carb without a problem. The 2 cover things are the jets, these should not have to be touched that is why they are capped. Which carb do you have and I will get you a breakdown

Hi

I went out to the shop and removed the arrestor thing and it looks plugged. does it have to be in there for the motor to run as it still just runs on idle and as soon as I touch the throttle it quits. so annoying. the kit says RB 89 rebuild kit. that is the only number i have. You have been very helpful. I ask a lot of questions.

No it does not need to be in there to run, if you are still having issues remove the muffler itself and check the exhaust outlet and the inlet to the muffler

Found your muffler, here is a breakdown;

Ok, I will try that. hope screw #21 doesn't have to be set too critical. I have it at 2 1/4 turns from the seat.

thanks again,

Bye,

Doug.

Screw #21 does not effect the operation of the engine or mix air and fuel. It simply sets the low speed of the engine by contacting the arm that moves the throttle plate inside the carb. If your idle is too low turn it up, too high just back it off a little until the head does not spin

Hi,

I finally got it working like a charm. I think the exhaust thing was most of the problem.

must remember that the exhaust has to get out freely as well as the fuel needs to get in. hope I get you again the next time I have a problem and I have lots :o)

I see that a lot on the exhausts. The number one reason for that is running your engine at less then full throttle. 2 cycle engines
Also you can always ask for me by name if you need help with another project
