Hello my name is XXXXX XXXXX X will try to help you with this.

I just need to verify first whether this is a gear drive or hydrostatic unit.

Customer replied 329 days and 2 hours ago.

this is hydrostatic

There are several possibilities with the symptoms the first thing I would check is the belt to see if there are any pieces missing out of it. Place the units so you can see underneath it and get a light so you don't miss anything roll the belt by hand all the way around with the engine turned off looking for any pieces missing out of the belt. Also look at the rear and look for any signs of wetness or clumps of dirt or grease t stuck to it this can be an indicator of a leak. If there is a leak you're going to need to diagnose the transmission itself and find out where the leak is coming from if it is a bad belt the replacement of the belt is the obvious choice. Another possibility is that the idler pulley is seizing up under there and causing it to slip under the increase load turn idler pulley by hand in if it feels rough course gravelly at all it needs to be replaced. Let me know what you find and we can proceed from there.

No where that I know of and they are sealed units which means no parts availability at all. If it is a gear issue it may be the differential parts itself as opposed to the hydro which doesn't make it any better but it should do it consistently all the time. You could try ebay for a used unit but they tend to be hard to come by.
